As the old Rathaus late in the 19th century no longer
fulfilled the needs of the city administration, a "Stadthaus"
was erected in a style combining Neo-gothic with Neo-renaissance
elements on the southern side of the old
councillors' hostelry (Ratskeller) in 1891-94. The façade
and roof are ennobled by rounded arches in the ground
floor and three daringly large windows echoing them in
the upper storey as well as by a tower and three imposing
gables. The arms over the main entrance bear the date
1892. In 1992 the Stadthaus was completely restored and
is now used for council meetings and civil wedding ceremonies.
